A new SATB choral work to send shivers down your spine!

Ian Wright's setting of the 1810 poem 'The Vampyre' by John Stagg brings the gory poem to life with music that is both contemporary and exciting, yet easy to sing.  The eight movements, comprising all 38 verses of the poem, are accompanied by piano, violin and cello, with an optional part for the atmospheric tolling of a church (or tubular) bell.

The music ranges from lyrical ines for cello and piano, through music reminiscent of computer gaming soundtracks, to a Chaconne and a choral arrangement of a Funeral march by Chopin (who was born the same year 'The Vampyre' was published - 1810).

Duration: approx 26 minutes

The work will receive its premiere at a concert in Wigton (John Stagg's home town) on May 16th 2026,

performed by Wigton Choral Society under the direction of Ian Wright.
